Chilly's: What was the inspiration behind your bottles?
Amber Vittoria: My goal with both designs was to bring a smile, color, and joy to the person drinking from it.
C: Can you tell us a bit about your typical creative process?
AV: Client projects are a bit more heavy-handed with planning than my personal work.
They involve rounds of brainstorming, sketching, works in progress, and editing. For my personal work, I go straight to creating the piece, which allows for more natural ‘errors’ and surprises to happen.
C: Could you tell us a little about your background and how you ended up doing what you do? Is this your dream job or was it an unexpected turn of events?
AV: Definitely a dream! Having been quite an illustrative graphic designer in school, upon graduating I quickly learned I preferred to illustrate. I worked full time as a designer and art director for several years while freelancing during evenings and weekends as an illustrator. Over time, I had the ability to freelance full time, left my design job, and have been freelancing since.
C: What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
AV: The ability to support myself with my art; it is truly humbling and gratifying to be able to do so.
C: What’s the one piece of advice you’d give an aspiring creative?
AV: There is no one correct path to be a working artist; trust your instincts, and ask as many artists as possible how they got to where they are today. This way you can learn what combinations of paths work best for you.
