What is World Refill Day?

World Refill Day is a Global Day of Action to prevent plastic pollution and help people live with less waste. Run by environmental charity City to Sea and supported by Chilly’s, the campaign is designed to create an alternative vision of the future and accelerate the transition away from single-use plastic and towards refill & reuse systems.

Why is it important?

The overproduction and consumption of single-use plastic is contributing to a global environmental and humanitarian crisis. Globally, we use millions of tonnes every year and it’s becoming clear that we can’t recycle our way out of our plastic problem. We know that we urgently need to shift from our disposable, single-use culture to a more sustainable, circular future, with reuse and refill playing a key part in this.

What can we do?

The good news is we already have the tools we need to make positive changes and on June 16th, we’ll be joining thousands of other NGOs, sustainable businesses, community groups and everyday activists around the world to take action to prevent plastic pollution for World Refill Day! Last year was the second World Refill Day, and it reached millions of people around the world, with activity in more than 80+ countries. This year, we’re hoping to take it bigger and reach even more people.

How to join in on World Refill Day

This World Refill Day join millions of people around the world taking action to prevent plastic pollution.

1). Choose to reuse on June 16th - Make one small change to your daily routine by switching from single-use to refill or reuse and together we can have a big impact. Carry your Chilly’s bottle or coffee cup to find free drinking water, or access discounts on hot drinks, or shop packaging free products.

2). Download the free Refill app to find thousands of places to eat, drink and shop with less waste and see what offers are available near you on World Refill Day.

3). Inspire change - Show the world a reusable future is possible and help make refill and reuse the new norm by inspiring others to get involved. Join the conversation on social media #WorldRefillDay

4.) Attend the Global Reuse Summit - This year will also see the launch of the first Global Reuse Summit – a free platform for change-makers, business leaders, policy makers and innovators to learn, share and be inspired.

Hosted LIVE on World Refill Day by City to Sea founder and award-winning author Natalie Fee, the Global Reuse Summit will include inspirational talks, provocative panels, in-depth workshops and more as we reimagine the future, and the power of the refill and reuse revolution. From brands and businesses, to researchers, campaigners and activists – you’ll hear from leaders in the space as we take you on a journey to create a shared vision of the future we want and need to see.
