Supporting the next generation of musical talent with Studio 36
We’re proud to donate to our local charity partner, Progression Sessions, who are inspiring the future big names in music with their unique project, Studio 36.
What is Studio 36?
Studio 36 is a community studio run by the charity Progression Sessions that offers mentoring, artist development, employment opportunities, training and free studio access for young creatives. Based round the corner from Chilly’s at the events venue EartH in Hackney, it’s a space for aspiring artists aged 14-25 to make, record and perform music with a range of hands-on workshops and events running across the year.
What’s their story?
Progression Sessions was founded by two ex-music teachers in response to years of government cuts to music funding. Their first 10-week programme, staffed by volunteers back in 2016, received an overwhelmingly positive response from the local community and the rest is history. From local collaborations with Hackney Empire to achieving full charitable status to running socially distanced projects through Covid, Progression Sessions is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to music education for young people in inner London.
Why is their work so important?
Imagine if the next big name in music was just around the corner and we never got to hear their music! Studio 36 provides music-making facilities and expertise for free to young musicians in London who face a variety of barriers that might prevent them from making the most of their creativity and talent. They also work with a pupil referral unit to offer young people access to alternative channels for learning.
How are Chilly’s involved?
When we heard about the Studio 36 space and the work being done by Progression Sessions in our local area, we knew we had to get involved. As the Official Reusable Bottle Supplier at Glastonbury 2025 and getting to see musicians at the top of their game, it’s a natural step for us to want to encourage young music makers at the start of their journeys too. Music, art and fashion are at the heart of Chilly’s. So in 2025, we're partnering with two charities working to give young people access to music who might not otherwise have it, and helping them in the development of their creative careers. We’ll be supporting the charity throughout the year and sharing details of our partnership as we go.
